Church Door Hangers are an inexpensive way to spread the news about upcoming events to your neighbors. They are also a great tool to encourage your members to get involved in your church outreach efforts. Easily customize any Door Hanger design to fit your church: edit the text, add your logo, or upload images using the easy online customizer. Customized Church Door Hangers are printed on a heavy 14 pt gloss paper that will hang nicely on the door. Minimum order is 250 and the finished product is shipped to you already cut and ready to hand out!

If you want an easy, fast and fun way to tell your community about your church’s events, try a church door hanger outreach! Not only are door hangers an inexpensive and easy way to spread the word, they are also an effective way to involve your regular church attenders in evangelism.

Why Start with Church Door Hangers?

Because your door hanger is right there on the door handle, people can’t miss your message. They have to pick it up as they go inside. Not only that, it has several other positives. A door hanger is a better solution than trying to leave a flyer on the doorstep, which can blow away or be damaged by rain and snow. It’s affordable, which is always a plus for any church budget. Leaving one is also less intrusive than knocking, which can make people frustrated (not the feeling you want associated with your church). A door hanger also allows you to ensure you reach every house. You can see which homes are occupied or not because you’re actually out in the neighborhood.

Here are a few easy steps to help you get started:

  • Choose a Door Hanger Design that fits your event or the style of your church. Make sure it looks professional and gets your message across in an exciting way. If you have an existing campaign, make sure your hanger matches the look and feel for a coordinated marketing effort.
  • Decide whether you want to print professionally or use a copier or printer. Remember that DIY printing will require ink and good paper to ensure that the end result looks nice. Weigh the costs and time of the two methods before committing and err on the side of professionalism. This may be the recipient’s first connection with your church and you want to make a good impression.
  • Be sure to include your church address, phone number, website and information on your upcoming event or ministry. Mention a free gift or family photo on the door hanger to provide the recipients one more reason to give your church a try.

CONTENT TIP: To create an effective invitation, put yourself in the recipient’s shoes. If you didn’t attend church regularly or had never attended, what would motivate you to visit? Also remember that the topic of faith can often be stressful or intimidating. Make your content welcoming and gentle so they feel good about visiting your church.

  • Get a street map for the area around your church and mark the neighborhoods you want to reach. Set up the time when you would like to have the Door Hangers placed. You want to have them on doors at least a week before—but no more than 2 weeks before—your event. If they go out too early, people may forget. Are you combining your Door Hanger outreach with a postcard mailing? Try to time the arrival of both invitations within a few days of each other to reinforce the messaging.
  • Put up a table in the lobby with the map and Door Hangers. On Sunday, make an announcement about the outreach effort. Ask your members to take home 6 Door Hangers and leave them on the doors of their neighbors. Or, they can volunteer to go out with a team on a special day to hang them. Mark the map with the areas that are being covered by individuals and teams. It makes it easier for people to see where extra help is needed.
  • Ask your volunteers to pray for each home as they hand out the Door Hangers. If your members get to meet people as they are in the neighborhood, make sure they are polite and friendly. It's also very important to respect the privacy of the homeowners.
  • Plan a small party after the outreach to thank volunteers for their time and efforts. Give people time to share about their experiences or talk about future ideas of how to reach out.

A Door Hanger outreach is a great way to get your church events front-and-center in your community. Plus door hangers can be a standalone tool, or they pair well with direct mail, invite cards and outdoor banners. This will create a fully integrated outreach campaign. And because Door Hangers rely on volunteer participation, you have the added benefit of making your congregation feel empowered and involved. Give them a try this year and share pictures of your team in action on our Facebook page.

Size

Submit artwork at 3.92" H X 8.75" W (this includes a 1/8" bleed). 3.67" H X 8.5" W is the final trim size.

Color Options

4 color front / 4 color back = CMYK inside and outside
4 color front / 1 color back = CMYK front, 100% Black or grayscale back

Note: RGB color is not acceptable and must be converted to CMYK before being submitted for print.

Black Values: In order for CMYK black to appear dark and saturated ("rich"), you will need to set your CMYK values accordingly: Rich Black = 40, 30, 30, 100

Resolution

300 dpi (dots per inch). Start with a quality image with the highest possible resolution. Avoid sizing images up, as image sizing can result in a loss of image quality. Photos taken off the web, pulled from PowerPoint or taken with a digital camera with less than 2.4 mega pixels do not contain enough image resolution and will print blurry and pixilated. Avoid clip art images.

Fonts

Fonts should be converted to paths (outlines) if possible. We are not able to guarantee we can use your provided fonts as we are Macintosh-based using the Adobe Font Library of fonts. PC fonts are not always compatible with our system. If there are font compatibility issues we will match your font with the closest font match to the font you submitted.

File Formats

Submit all working files with outlined fonts and linked images. We accept working files in Adobe Acrobat (pdf), InDesign CS, Illustrator CS and PhotoShop CS formats.

Guidelines for Submitting Images and Logos when Customizing Stock Door Hangers

Email images and logos to your Outreach Specialist for review.

Image Requirements

Quality photo requirements are 300 dpi, CMYK images with a reasonable image size (approx. the size of a standard 4" X 6" photo). RGB images are not acceptable. Images downloaded from the web are also unacceptable as they do not contain the print resolution required for print products.

Logo Requirements

We accept logos created in the following formats:
Vector formats (spot color): .ai, .eps, .pdf
Raster formats (300 dpi and CMYK color): .tif, .psd, .pdf

Note: Vector formatted logos are preferred.

Design Your Door Hangers

Door Hangers are easy to create and produce. Follow these simple steps for great results:

  1. Prepare Your Information

Collect the information you want to include on the back of your Door Hanger. This might include your logo, map and information about your services or an event (approximately 50 words).

Text Tip: Remember the purpose of this Door Hanger is to motivate someone to make a visit, not to give them every detail about your church. Use short sentences in the present tense. Emphasize the benefits of attending your church, not just the features of your service (i.e. instead of “Dramas,” say “Dramas to make you laugh and think”). Give them enough information to make a visit without having to make a phone call for more details.

  2. Create Your Layout

Your Door Hanger layout is easy to create in any word processing or desktop publishing program or even using the “cut & paste” method. The template will give you a guide for the way your page should look.

    1. Choose a “landscape” (sideways) orientation of a regular 8.5" by 11" document. This can usually be done using a “page setup,” “document setup” or similar function (depending on your program).
    2. Divide the document into three equal sections or columns. This can usually be done using a “page divide,” “page layout,” “page modify” or similar function.
    3. The margins for each page should be set as follows, leaving three vertical boxes, each 3.1875" (3 3/16") wide by 6" high:
      • Top: 0.25"
      • Bottom: 0.25"
      • Left: 0.25"
      • Right: 0.25"
      • Gutter: 0.50" (Note: Set margins as close to 0.25" as possible as your printer will allow.)
    4. Use no more than two type faces (fonts). One bolder type face for headlines and subheads, and one regular type face for the text work well. However, using variations (bold, italic, light, etc.) on a font can add emphasis and visual variety to your layout without adding to graphic “clutter.” Recommended font sizes:
      • Headlines: 24–48 pt.
      • Text: 10–12 pt.
      • Maps: 6–9 pt.
    5. Look at the template for ideas about how to position the text and other elements on your Door Hanger reverse side. The result should be a simple, clean layout that offers key information without confusion. Have at least three people proof the layout for errors, content (date, time, location, etc.) and readability before you print. Once the layout is complete, group the text and other graphic elements and copy/paste them onto all three panels.
  3. Print

Print your Door Hangers on a laser* or inkjet printer,* or print a high-quality original. Have the high-quality original duplicated on a photocopier* or at a local quick printer.

  4. Separate

Carefully separate your Door Hangers by folding them back and forth, then tearing along the perforations. You may also want to remove the doorknob circle to facilitate ease of distribution.

  5. Distribute

Assemble a team of people from your church to walk targeted neighborhoods and distribute the Door Hangers. Two or three people can generally reach about 100 homes in an hour.

Idea: Leave a stack of Door Hangers on your church information table for your attenders to give to new families who move into their neighborhoods.

    * Before running Door Hangers through a laser printer or photocopier, check your owner’s manual for specifications regarding perforated stock.
